Responsibilities

Job Summary / Purpose

Performs cardiovascular ultrasound procedures including echocardiograms, transesophageal echocardiograms, stress echocardiograms, peripheral, extracranial, and visceral vascular ultrasound as appropriate for credentialing. Completes study reports and displays a positive image of Saint Joseph Hospital by demonstrating courteous and professional behavior toward patients, physicians, visitors, volunteers, and staff. Provides patient care/services based on identified needs and developmental level for all patient populations, which may include assessment of individual needs, age-specific education, communication, planning, and provision of individualized care with appropriate interventions.


Essential Functions

  • Implements an age-appropriate plan of care in conjunction with the healthcare team per Scope of Service.
  • Performs responsibilities that incorporate infection control procedures and universal precautions.
  • Reports abuse and violence in the workplace.
  • Responds appropriately to Code Blue emergencies.
  • Ensures employee health and safety, including ergonomics.
  • Attends mandatory safety training and complies with hospital and departmental radiation policies.
  • Handles responsibilities during emergencies such as hazardous waste exposure, bomb threats, disasters, fires, tornadoes, and uncontrolled patients.
  • Adapts responsibilities when working with different age groups.

The above responsibilities are not exhaustive; employees may be required to perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Associates of Science degree.
  • Completion of formal cardiovascular ultrasound training program.

Licensure and Certifications

  • Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) or
  • Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) - CCI or
  • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or
  • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer with Adult Echo specialization (RDCSAE) or
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) or
  • Registered Technologist in Vascular Sonography (RTVS) or
  • Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT), required within 12 months of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS-CPR), required upon hire.
