Job Responsibilities:
Inspect and Quality Checks
- Inspect sheet vinyl and perform quality control checks as needed.
- Operate winding machine to process correct roll length.
- Package rolls with plastic, end caps, staples, and label identification.
- This is a cross-trained role encompassing Packing, Wind Up, and Quality Inspection.
Packaging
- Maintain sufficient work-in-process levels for cores, end caps, and plastic.
- Provide breaks to other CV finishing operators.
- Set up machines for correct plastic length.
- Operate roll transfer to elevator location.
- Ensure correct packaging label placement and maintain accordingly.
- Operate staple gun and install endcaps using rubber hammer.
- Wrap and tape down plastic ends.
- Assist during line stops and cleaning.
- Operate crane and communicate with warehouse as needed.
Wind-Up
- Follow work order sequence using schedule and MES.
- Enter grading data into MES and Excel.
- Operate MES in automatic and manual modes.
- Perform lab sample cutouts manually.
- Read and interpret schedules and perform width changeovers.
- Operate center rewind and small roll winder.
- Troubleshoot basic machine issues.
- Create roll tickets in automatic and manual modes.
- Use tape measure for feet and inches.
- Operate web guiders and understand vinyl sheet alignment.
- Operate HMI panels for inspection tables and accumulators.
Quality Inspection
- Grade and inspect according to quality standards and tech sheets.
- Use multiple grading codes based on first choice, second choice, and scrap.
- Identify visual defects and color deviations.
- Conduct quality tests for thickness, wear layer, and weight.
- Use gloss meter and understand specifications.
- Assist in initial production runs to ensure visual standards.
- Operate HMI panels for inspection processes.
- Maintain edge trim knives to width requirements.
- Communicate effectively during inspections.
Skills and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Experience with quality systems and machinery operation.
- Superior color vision (shade test required).
- Decision-making, organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Ability to operate test equipment and software.
- Independent work in a fast-paced environment.
- Critical thinking skills.
- Minimum 1 year of experience in production machinery operation.
- Flexible for all shifts; able to lift up to 60 pounds and learn lift truck operation.
Physical Demands & Work Environment:
Stand, walk, sit, handle objects, reach, balance, stoop, talk. Lift/move up to 20 pounds frequently and up to 60 pounds occasionally. Vision requirements include color, close, distance, peripheral, and depth perception. Work outdoors in weather conditions, with generally minimal noise levels.
