Job summary

Bernhardt Furniture Company seeks a Cutting & Sewing Manager to oversee daily operations of the Cutting and Sewing Department. This role directs all activities to meet plant quotas and quality objectives and maintains strong cross-department relations.

The position emphasizes safety, team guidance, and ensuring clear goals, schedules, and priorities. Experience in cutting and sewing within upholstered furniture is essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• 5 years + Cut and Sew experience in an upholstered furniture factory.
• Ability to work with all levels of the company.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Excel, Word, and Outlook skills are required.
• Solid understanding of Lean Manufacturing techniques.

Responsibilities

• Assumes overall responsibility of the cutting and sewing department.
• Plans, directs, coordinates, and controls all activities with the department in meeting plant production quotas and quality objectives.
• Maintains good relationships and communication with other departments, supervisors/managers as well as department employees.
• Maintain safe and accident-free work environment.
• Provide direction and support to the department team. Communicate and ensure goals, timelines, work schedules, and priorities are understood by the team. Provides training as necessary for identified skill gaps, cross training, and makes sure key functions within the department have back-up.

Essential Duties include, but are not limited to

• Assumes overall responsibility of the cutting and sewing department.
• Plans, directs, coordinates, and controls all activities with the department in meeting plant production quotas and quality objectives.
• Maintains good relationships and communication with other departments. supervisors/managers as well as department employees.
• Maintain safe and accident-free work environment.
• Provide direction and support to the department team. Communicate and ensure goals, timelines, work schedules, and priorities are understood by the team. Provides training as necessary for identified skill gaps, cross training, and makes sure key functions within the department have back-up.

Position Requirements

• High school diploma or GED preferred
• 5 years + Cut and Sew experience in an upholstered furniture factory

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, sit, walk, push, pull, lift, carry, twist, and bend over the course of 8 hours (or more if overtime is required based on business needs)

• Frequent lifting/carrying objects ranging from 10 pounds to up to 25 pounds
