Job summary

Smurfit WestRock is seeking a Cutting Operator in Texas to support daily production activities, learn machine setup, quality checks, material handling, and basic troubleshooting. You will work with experienced teammates to gain hands-on experience and advance toward senior operator positions within the production team.

You will follow safety procedures, ensure product quality, perform make-readies, and assist with maintenance as needed while maintaining accurate production documentation.

The Opportunity

As a Cutting Operator, you will support daily production activities while learning the skills needed to operate manufacturing equipment safely and efficiently. You will work alongside experienced team members to gain hands‑on experience in machine setup, quality checks, material handling, and basic troubleshooting. This role provides a strong foundation for future advancement into senior operator‑level positions within the production team.

• Safety
• Makes sure all safety procedures are being followed.
• Hold employees accountable for working within the rules and proactively identifying and removing hazards.
• Reports all near misses, incidents, first aid rendered, or unsafe working conditions to the Plant Manager and Safety Manager immediately without exception.
• Administers and models safety in his/her area of responsibility.
• Ensures compliance with all applicable OSHA and plant safety standards.
• Responsible for the safety and well‑being of self and employees.
• Production
• Safety always takes priority over production.
• Primarily responsible for everything and everyone on the machine
• Responsible for managing crew on the machine (rotating, breaks, etc.)
• Works in conjunction with the Team Leader to packers, Operator Trainee 2, and Operator Trainee 1.
• Performs Make Ready on machine
• Proofreads job jacket for specific job information.
• Collects customer job samples (if required)
• Achieves production goals for waste, output, and make readies.
• Ensures all DMS checklists and documents are filled out completely and correctly.
• Check trays for non‑conforming issues (bad scores, cuts, poor prints etc)
• Sets up proper delivery for every job.
• Sets print to cut register.
• Fills out daily production report.
• Changes Askew belts
• Sets up the askew
• Sets eye marks.
• Sets stripper wires.
• Able to do everything that an Operator trainee 1&2 does.
• Installs pin cylinder.
• Sets up stacker.
• Responsible for product safety and product quality, and reports product safety and product quality problems to Senior Management or Quality Manager.
• Quality
• Maintains excellent product quality.
• Ensures control plan is adhered to.
• Responsible for ensuring that correct procedure is followed for rejection of raw material.
• Responsible for ensuring proper procedure is followed for rejecting or passing questionable product produced by their machine.
• Maintenance
• Can assist in maintenance of machine when necessary.
• Housekeeping
• Assists with housekeeping of machine.
• Responsible for the cleanliness of the equipment in their assigned area.
• Machinery
• Perform and ensure all preventative maintenance is being performed on machine according to scheduled PM’s.
• Responsible for troubleshooting problems with the machine and equipment.
