Job description

We are a well-established fashion company located in the heart of New York City, seeking a creative, motivated, and detail-oriented Entry-Level Cut & Sew Designer to join our design team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an emerging designer who wants to build a strong foundation in the fashion industry while gaining hands‑on experience across the complete apparel design and product development process—from initial concept and trend research through sampling, fittings, and final production.

We are looking for someone with a strong eye for fashion, solid technical fundamentals, and, most importantly, the drive to learn, take initiative, and grow within the company.

This is not a role where you will be limited to one small part of the design process. You will have the opportunity to work closely with experienced team members and gain exposure to both the creative and technical sides of apparel design and development.

We are looking to fill this position immediately.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the design and development of cut & sew knits and woven garments throughout the complete product lifecycle, from concept through production
  • Research seasonal fashion trends, colors, fabrics, prints, silhouettes, trims, and market direction
  • Assist in developing seasonal concepts, color palettes, fabric ideas, and product direction
  • Create accurate CADs, technical flats, and garment sketches using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop
  • Create, update, and maintain detailed tech packs, including garment construction, measurements, specifications, trims, and design details
  • Develop an understanding of fabric qualities, garment construction, fit, measurements, finishing techniques, and technical requirements
  • Measure and evaluate development samples, enter specifications, and communicate corrections and revisions
  • Participate in fittings and assist with maintaining design intent throughout the development process
  • Communicate and follow up with overseas factories and vendors regarding samples, fabrics, trims, artwork, colors, and product development
  • Track samples and development progress to ensure projects remain on schedule
  • Maintain accurate and organized design files, tech packs, artwork, and development records
  • Prepare line sheets, presentation boards, and other materials for internal and customer meetings
  • Work within seasonal Time & Action calendars and help ensure key development deadlines are met
  • Collaborate with Design, Technical Design, Production, and other teams throughout the development process
  • Review samples for construction, fit, proportion, color, print, fabric, and overall appearance
  • Take initiative, ask questions, and continuously develop both creative and technical skills
Qualifications
  • Strong proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Basic understanding of garment construction, fit, measurements, and standard garment specifications
  • Strong fashion sense with a good eye for trends, color, print, proportion, silhouette, and overall aesthetic
  • Strong organizational and time‑management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast‑paced environment
  • Excellent communication and follow‑up skills
  • Close attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
  • Self‑motivated with a willingness to take initiative and assume additional responsibilities
  • Positive, collaborative attitude and ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Strong work ethic and pride in producing high‑quality work
  • Eagerness to learn and develop both creatively and technically
Digital & AI Skills

We believe the next generation of fashion designers should be comfortable combining traditional design skills with emerging technology.

  • Familiarity with AI‑assisted creative and design tools such as ChatGPT, Adobe Firefly, Midjourney, or similar platforms is a plus
  • Interest in using AI to support concept development, trend research, visual exploration, presentations, and workflow efficiency
  • Knowledge of fabric printing, textile development, print repeats, and artwork preparation is a plus
Our team members enjoy:
  • Health and dental insurance
  • Summer Fridays
Entry-Level Candidates

We welcome emerging designers who have a strong foundation in fashion design and a genuine interest in specializing in sweaters and knitwear. Candidates should demonstrate initiative, curiosity, strong Adobe skills, attention to detail, and a willingness to develop their technical knowledge of sweater construction, yarns, gauges, stitches, fit, and specifications.

Mid-Level Candidates

Candidates should have professional experience in sweater or knitwear design and development, with a solid understanding of technical sweater construction, yarns, gauges, stitches, fit, and measurements. You should be comfortable managing tech packs and sample development with minimal supervision, communicating corrections clearly, and proactively identifying and resolving development or production issues.

Why Join Us?

We believe an entry‑level position should be the beginning of a career—not simply a first job.

You’ll have the opportunity to learn directly from experienced industry professionals while gaining hands‑on exposure to the full apparel design and production lifecycle.

We’re looking for someone curious, ambitious, creative, and ready to learn. You don’t need to know everything on day one—but you should be excited to develop your skills, take ownership of your work, and become a stronger designer.

If you’re ready to start your career in fashion and want an opportunity to learn, contribute, and grow, we’d love to hear from you!
