The U.S. Customs Specialist is responsible for ensuring all import and export activities comply with U.S. Customs regulations while supporting the efficient, on-time movement of materials across the supply chain. This role partners closely with internal stakeholders, customs brokers, freight forwarders, and government agencies to minimize compliance risk, maintain accurate customs documentation, and drive continuous improvement in customs processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with U.S. Customs regulations for all import and export transactions.
- Perform and maintain accurate HTS classifications of goods, including supporting audit trails and documentation.
- Partner with customs brokers, freight forwarders, carriers, and government agencies to facilitate timely and compliant shipments.
- Monitor and interpret changes to customs regulations and implement process updates as needed.
- Maintain customs records and documentation in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Support import/export compliance initiatives, audits, and internal reviews.
- Investigate and resolve customs-related issues, shipment delays, and compliance concerns.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Supply Chain, Purchasing, Finance, Logistics, and Operations to ensure efficient movement of materials.
- Identify opportunities to improve customs processes, documentation accuracy, and overall compliance.
- Support special projects and other trade compliance initiatives as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- 3-5 years of U.S. Customs and trade compliance experience within automotive manufacturing.
- Experience performing HTS classification of goods and maintaining supporting audit documentation.
- Working knowledge of U.S. Customs regulations and import/export compliance requirements.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred
- U.S. Licensed Customs Broker (LCB).
- CCS, CES, or CZS certification.
- Experience using SAP ERP systems.
- Experience working with customs brokers and government agencies.
Schedule & Compensation
- Hybrid schedule: 3 days in the office, 2 days remote after onboarding.
