As a Customs And Border Protection Officer (CBPO), you will be part of our 60,000+ workforce that strives to protect the American people by safeguarding our borders, deterring illicit activity, and enhancing the nation’s economic prosperity. Being a CBPO makes you a valuable member of the Federal Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) profession. Typical assignments include:
You will be asked to provide your location preferences from a list of mission-critical locations. Incentives are available for some locations. The list includes locations across the U.S. and territories, such as Nogales, AZ; Calexico, CA; Washington, DC; Miami, FL; Honolulu, HI; Chicago, IL; and others. If no vacancies are available at your preferred location, you may be assigned elsewhere within the U.S. depending on operational needs.
Annual base salaries vary by grade level:
Locality pay varies by location. Fully trained officers are eligible for up to $45,000 in overtime pay. Grade progression occurs every 52 weeks, with promotions at the agency's discretion. Benefits include health, dental, insurance, leave, and participation in the Thrift Savings Plan. Location incentives may add 15%-25% to your salary for the first three or four years, depending on the duty location.
GS-5: 3 years of general work experience or a bachelor's degree or equivalent.
GS-7: 1 year of specialized experience or a bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement.
GS-9: Law enforcement or military law enforcement experience.
Additional requirements include U.S. citizenship, residency, age limits, veterans' preference, and successful completion of training at FLETC.
