As a Customs and Border Protection Officer (CBPO), you will be part of our 60,000+ workforce that strives to protect the American people by safeguarding our borders, deterring illicit activity, and enhancing the nation's economic prosperity. Typical assignments include:
Duty Locations and Incentives: Available for some locations. You will be asked to provide your location preferences from a list of mission-critical locations across the U.S. and territories. Incentives vary by location and are subject to operational needs and funding.
The annual base salary varies by duty location and experience, with potential overtime pay up to $45,000. Promotions are based on experience and time in grade, with a career ladder from GS-5 to GS-12. Benefits include health, dental, insurance plans, generous leave, and participation in the Thrift Savings Plan.
Location Incentives: Certain duty locations offer additional salary incentives of 15%-25% for the first three years, with some locations like San Francisco offering up to 25% for four years. Incentives depend on funding and operational needs.
Qualifications: Vary by grade level (GS-5, GS-7, GS-9). Requirements include specific experience or education credentials, such as a bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience. Previous law enforcement or military experience may qualify candidates for GS-9 positions.
Other Requirements: U.S. citizenship, residency, age limits, veterans' preference, and successful completion of training at FLETC are mandatory.
