Job summary

Opulo in Pittsburgh is seeking a part-time Hardware Support Specialist to help customers assemble and operate their pick and place machines. The role is hybrid, requiring in-office presence in the Pittsburgh, PA area 15–30 hours per week.

You will answer questions, track field issues, generate quotes, and assist in selecting the best hardware for customers. Experience with CNC machines and at least 1 year in customer service for hardware is preferred. Shopify/CRM tools experience is a bonus.

Qualifications

• 1+ year of customer service for a hardware product.
• Experience with CNC machines (3D printer, laser cutter, CNC mill, etc.).
• Ability to communicate technical information clearly and concisely.

Responsibilities

• Help customers with questions regarding assembling or operating their machine.
• Answer questions about shipping timelines and help process returns or refunds.
• Monitor and track issues in the field and advise on prioritization.
• Record and update issue status.
• Generate and manage quotes for prospective customers.
• Be active on our Discord community, spotting issues and identifying improvement areas.

• Resolve problems independently when appropriate.

What We're Building

Our vision is to make it easy and accessible to manufacture a product. We're starting with a desktop Pick and Place machine, used to assemble electronic components onto circuit boards. Existing Pick and Place machines are expensive, can require high‑pressure air and three‑phase power, and some only accept job files on a floppy disk. Traditionally, these machines have been used only by large companies with factory space, so they are designed for that environment. We believe they need not be this way. Our machines enable mid‑scale manufacturing, allowing anyone to run a production batch of their product in‑house before moving to factory contract.

What We're Looking For

We are looking for someone excited by this vision, experienced in hardware support, and ready to wear many hats. As a small but fast‑growing team, you will have continual opportunities to take on new responsibilities and influence the company’s direction.

To qualify, you should be capable of providing customer service for Opulo. You will help customers assemble and operate their pick and place machines, monitor and log field issues for engineering prioritization, and advise prospective customers on the hardware that best suits their needs. The role is part‑time (15–30 hrs/week) and hybrid, requiring regular presence in our Pittsburgh, PA office.

Basic Qualifications

• Have experience with any type of CNC machine (3D printer, laser cutter, CNC mill, etc.)
• Can communicate technical information clearly and concisely
• 1+ years of customer service for a hardware product

Bonus Qualifications

• Experience with ecommerce tools such as Shopify, WooCommerce, etc.
• Experience with CRM software like HubSpot or Zendesk
• Experience with electronics and related manufacturing processes
• STEM degree
• Knowledge of a foreign language – Chinese or German especially
