About the Job

The City of Palmetto is hiring a Customer Service & Water Meter Technician to support our Water and Customer Service Department. This role is hands-on and customer-facing — you’ll perform meter readings, install and repair water meters, respond to customer questions, and help keep our water systems running smoothly.

Location: Palmetto, FL

Full-Time | Monday–Friday | Benefits Eligible

Pay: $16.80

What You’ll Do
  • Read, track, and record water consumption and report unusual changes (leaks, damages, high/low usage)
  • Meet with customers to provide education about water usage and address questions (bilingual skills)
  • Install, clean, and repair water meters
  • Respond to service orders, including disconnections and reconnections
  • Perform preventative maintenance: cleaning, digging, lifting, spraying, and light equipment operation
  • Assist with route analysis and department improvements
  • Serve as backup at the front desk: scheduling, answering calls, assisting customers, creating reports
What We’re Looking For
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • 2+ years of experience in customer service (preferably in water conservation, landscaping, utilities, or related field)
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work with customers and internal teams
  • Ability to use computers, tablets, Microsoft Word, Excel (AMR software experience a plus)
  • Bilingual
  • Some knowledge of plumbing repair (or willingness to learn)
Requirements
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to obtain Backflow Testing Certification within one year
