Job summary

Hatchet Hardware, an ACE Hardware affiliated family-owned chain, seeks a Retail Sales Associate to join our Upstate New York stores. You will unload deliveries, stock shelves, assist customers, and operate in a fast-paced team environment.

Residents in Upstate NY will benefit from a supportive team, training on POS, paint mixing, glass cutting, propane refills, key cutting, and inventory control, with opportunities for growth and development within a family-run company.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule with retail hours, including regular business hours, weekends and/or holidays.
• Able to read, interpret, and follow instructional documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals.
• Able to communicate professionally with customers and team members.
• Strong organizational skills with a passion for details and a desire to learn and grow professionally.
• Knowledge and experience in various departments are strongly desired.
• A continuous pattern of regular and prompt attendance is required.

Responsibilities

• Help unload incoming trucks and put away merchandise and maintain your assigned department.
• Execute daily operational goals and priorities as assigned by store management.
• Cooperate with others and work well as part of a retail team; share ideas for improvement with management.
• Remove promotional bin tags and price tags as required; restock displays as needed.
• Handle special orders for non-stock items and consult a manager before saying no to a customer.
• Watch for shoplifters and act in line with company policy to deter theft; provide excellent customer service.
• Provide the best possible experience for Every Customer, Every Time by being helpful, knowledgeable, respectful, and friendly.
• Stand in the main aisle when not with a customer to monitor flow and assist across departments.
• Serve customers in assigned departments or storewide and greet them promptly with information and advice.
• Assist with simple complaints; involve a manager when needed.
• Maintain awareness of promotions to inform customers about special sales.
• Always wear radio/ headset to communicate with colleagues and management.
• Assist customers with large/heavy items as needed.
• Assist in training and development of peers.
• Training will cover POS system basics, paint mixing, glass cutting, propane refills, key cutting, basic hardware, and inventory control.
