Nucor in Columbia, MO is seeking a detail-oriented Retail Scrap Associate to greet customers, identify non-ferrous scrap, and ensure accurate pricing and compliance with policies.

You will perform inventory, operate light equipment, and support a safe, efficient yard operation while being adaptable to changing business needs and weather conditions.

The role offers a $4,000 sign-on bonus and comprehensive benefits; Monday–Friday schedule with potential overtime.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills with attention to details.
• Ability to be flexible and display a positive attitude in a fast-paced environment.
• Schedule is Monday-Friday 7:50am-4:30pm; overtime based on business needs.
• Willing to work outside in all weather conditions.
• Basic math and computer skills.
• Must wear all necessary PPE while working or in the yard.
• Follows company safety standards at all times.
• Willing to learn, be adaptable, and be self-motivated.

Responsibilities

• Greet and assist retail customers in purchasing non-ferrous scrap metal while creating a positive customer experience.
• Accurately identify the various non-ferrous scrap materials and grade accordingly.
• Follow and enforce all buying procedures, validate proper identification and paperwork for compliance with laws and policy.
• Understand the different pricing of materials.
• Conduct monthly retail inventory – entering inventory into computer system.
• Identify non-conforming types of scrap material.
• Operate small material handling equipment to move materials for processing.
• Prepare autos for processing, such as removing designated parts, fluids, etc.
• Manage work area to maintain readiness for changing business needs.
• Willingness to cross-train in other areas.
