Position Summary

Build an exciting, rewarding career with us and play an integral part in Piedmont Natural Gas' success and satisfaction as a Customer Care Specialist.

This role has a high degree of accountability for individual performance in the areas of customer satisfaction, quality, and productivity to ensure that customers receive excellent service and business objectives are achieved.

The Customer Care Specialist will also consult with customers on their billing inquiries, service orders, trouble calls, and various other needs.

Note:

If selected, you will be contacted for a 30-45-minute mandatory video interview through Microsoft Teams. This interview will be recorded and is required to proceed in the hiring process. You will be on-camera during the interview.

Pay and Work Schedule
  • The pay rate is $21 per hour (non-negotiable)
  • This role is virtual, work will be performed onsite and remotely
  • Annual incentives are based on performance
  • Hours of Operation: Monday-Friday, 7:30 AM – 7:00 PM
  • Charlotte, NC Only – hours include weekends and overnight shifts
  • Over-time and storm duty calls are expected
  • Shift may change tri-annually due to business needs
Target Start Date
  • Monday, 6/30/25
Training Details
  • First 8 weeks, Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
  • First day onsite at a Duke Energy Call Center location
  • Training is remote after the first day
  • No vacation or absences during training; employment contingent on successful completion
Responsibilities
  • Provide high-quality customer interaction with integrity and empathy
  • Use professional judgment; escalate issues when appropriate
  • Participate in on-call rotation
  • Promote sales of products/services as appropriate
  • Build genuine connections with customers and represent the Duke Energy brand
  • Perform other duties and participate in special projects
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED at application time
  • One-year customer service experience (call center, hospitality, retail, etc.)
Desired Qualifications
  • 3+ years call center experience preferred
  • Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree
  • Willingness to work in a phone-based environment
  • Experience multitasking with multiple technologies
  • Effective listening and communication skills
  • Ability to handle confidential information with integrity
Working Conditions
  • Remote work after onboarding; live within reasonable commute to a Duke Energy facility
  • Reliable high-speed internet and quiet environment required
  • Expect extended hours, overtime, and work during inclement weather or major events
Hiring Process
  • Complete Duke Energy Customer Care Assessment, including a video introduction
  • Mandatory 45-minute video interview via Microsoft Teams, recorded and on-camera
  • Background check and drug test required upon offer acceptance
