Job summary

LEE Industries in Conover, NC is seeking a skilled Custom & PD Upholster/Trimmer to work with the Product Development Engineering team on new, custom, and special-build furniture. You will translate upholstery concepts into practical construction methods, assess prototypes with PD Engineers, and help ensure quality meeting our standards while supporting production readiness.

Qualifications

• Significant hands-on upholstery and/or furniture trimming experience.
• Deep knowledge of upholstery materials, fabrics, leathers, foam, decking, seams, welt.
• Ability to read, understand, and work from patterns, drawings, specifications, and PD docs.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Ability to work with engineers and product development teams.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with Product Development Engineers on new product introductions, custom products, prototypes, and special builds.
• Build and evaluate upholstery prototypes to determine construction methods.
• Review and improve upholstery patterns for ease of manufacturing and quality.
• Partner with PD Engineers to identify early upholstery construction issues.
• Provide hands-on expertise on fabric application, pattern development, cutting, sewing, trimming.
• Help establish upholstery specifications aligned with quality and appearance standards.
• Evaluate prototypes and first-build samples for fit and appearance.
• Document upholstery construction requirements and changes as needed.
• Support transition of new products from product development into production.
• Maintain high craftsmanship and serve as a resource for upholstery questions.
• Identify opportunities to improve repeatability and reduce rework.
