Confidential Employer in Louisville, KY seeks a senior design leader to head custom wallcoverings and large-format artwork. You will drive concepts, art direction, and production-ready designs, mentoring a team of designers and project managers to deliver high-impact visuals for luxury spaces.

The role focuses on translating client briefs into compelling artwork, collaborating across design and production, and advancing creative standards while ensuring timely delivery and exemplary quality.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of design experience in surface design, digital art direction, or related field.
• 2+ years of experience leading a creative or design team.
• A portfolio showing large-format artwork, wallcoverings, murals, or related surface design.

Responsibilities

• Lead the creative vision for custom wallcoverings, murals, and large-format artwork.
• Translate client concepts into production-ready designs.
• Mentor designers and project managers; establish creative standards and workflows.
• Oversee digital file prep, scaling, repeats, color accuracy, and layout continuity.
• Collaborate with interior designers, distribution partners, and customers on concepts and revisions.
• Coordinate with manufacturing to ensure artwork translates to installation.
• Manage multiple projects and ensure on-time delivery with quality.

Note

Candidates must have 5+ years of relevant design experience, including 2+ years of creative or design team management experience. Hands-on experience with large-format artwork, custom murals, wallcoverings, or related surface design is essential, along with strong Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator skills. A portfolio demonstrating relevant large-scale custom design work is required for interview consideration.

Job Description

• Lead the creative vision and execution of custom wallcoverings, murals, and large-format digital artwork.
• Translate client concepts, mood boards, and design briefs into original, visually compelling artwork ready for production.
• Manage and mentor a team of designers and project managers while establishing creative standards and efficient studio workflows.
• Oversee digital file preparation, image scaling, color accuracy, layouts, repeats, and panel-to-panel design continuity.
• Collaborate with interior designers, distribution partners, and customers to develop concepts, present designs, and manage revisions.
• Partner with manufacturing and production teams to ensure custom artwork translates beautifully from digital concept to finished installation.
• Manage multiple creative projects, maintain quality standards, and deliver exceptional results on schedule.
• Explore emerging design technologies, printing techniques, and materials to continuously elevate our custom design capabilities.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in surface design, digital art direction, large-format graphic design, or a closely related discipline.
• 2+ years of experience managing or leading a creative or design team.
• Strong portfolio demonstrating custom murals, large-format artwork, wallcoverings, or related surface design projects.
• Advanced proficiency in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.
• Experience with large-format artwork preparation, scaling, repeats, layouts, and production-ready digital files.
• Working knowledge of wide-format digital printing, color management, and proofing processes.
• Strong creative leadership, project management, communication, and client-facing skills.
• Experience with gravure printing, print RIP software, or commercial wallcovering manufacturing is a plus.
