Job summary

CHS Inc. is a leading agri-business focused on serving local farmers with fertilizer and crop protection products from Mitchell, SD. As a Custom Applicator, you will apply products in the field, drive and operate specialized equipment, and maintain vehicles and gear in safe, compliant conditions.

You will build relationships with customers, learn product applications, and support sales with accurate orders and timely deliveries, contributing to local communities and CHS’s safety standards.

Qualifications

• Valid Class A CDL required.
• 1+ years of Agriculture Production, Operations, and/or Agriculture Application experience.
• Must meet minimum age requirement.
• Ability to read, write and communicate in English.

Responsibilities

• Apply fertilizer and crop protection products under general supervision; may use high clearance sprayer or floater.
• Deliver products to customers as needed.
• Educate customers on products applied, techniques, and ongoing support.

You will:

• Create relationships with local farmers to acquire knowledge on their chemical and fertilizer needs
• Manage your time in the field by operating a sprayer/airflow machine while loading and applying products safely, accurately, and efficiently
• Receive hands‑on experience and technical skills by handling many types of machinery and performing routine equipment maintenance

Responsibilities

• Under general supervision, apply fertilizer and crop protection products. May require use of a high clearance sprayer or floater.
• Pick up and deliver product to customers as needed.
• Work with customers in a courteous and professional manner.
• Educate customers on products being applied to fields, techniques utilized, and how you can continue to support them with products and services.
• Assist the sales staff in ensuring orders are correct and patron needs are met.
• Perform warehouse work including driving loader, forklift, mechanics, and maintenance.
• Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal laws and regulations including pre-trip and post-trip reporting, proper load securement and hours of service.
• Maintain cleanliness of vehicle(s) inside and out, and work environment.
• Complete and document daily maintenance inspections.
• Ensure proper equipment maintenance is completed including repairs and preventive maintenance.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (required)

• Valid Class A CDL
• 1+ years of experience in Agriculture Production, Operations, and/or Agriculture Application
• Must meet minimum age requirement
• Ability to read, write and communicate in English and understand highway traffic signs and signals

Additional Qualifications

• Maintain a CDL and DOT medical card
• Ability to work additional hours and occasional weekends
• High School diploma or GED preferred
• Hazmat, Tanker, and Air Brake endorsements preferred
• Agriculture background and customer experience preferred
• Bulk liquid, Pressure trailer, or Forklift experience preferred

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift 75 lbs
• Ability to climb rail cars, ladders, stairs and bins, and into back of trailer
• Ability to work in dust and adverse weather conditions and temperatures

CHS offers a competitive total rewards package. Compensation includes base wage and, depending upon position, may include other earnings such as bonus, incentives and commissions. Actual pay offered will vary based on multiple factors which may include, without limitation, experience, education, training, specialized skills and certifications, minimum wage/salary requirements under local law.
