Job summary

West Des Moines Community Schools is seeking a Custodian-Sweep to maintain assigned areas at multiple sites in West Des Moines, IA. This full-time position requires 8-hour shifts with variable hours.

The role involves cleaning tasks, securing storage areas, reporting hazards, and supporting events. Starting date immediately; salary is $17.66 per hour. Applicants should be reliable and ready to participate in trainings.

Responsibilities

• Ensure assigned areas are maintained.
• Promote positive relationships with staff, students, and community members.
• Communicate to Head Custodian or Maintenance/Custodial Manager any changes or concerns regarding job assignment.
• Work at assigned sites to cover duties for absent custodians or Head Custodians.
• Adhere to established West Des Moines School District policies, procedures, and guidelines.
• Maintain custodial storage area inventory and organization.
• Custodial storage areas must be secured and locked throughout work shift.
• Monitor and ensure facility security through keeping doors and windows shut and locked when appropriate.
• Return all custodial tools and supplies to a secure custodial storage area at the end of each shift.
• Perform cleaning functions such as trash removal, sweeping, dusting, mopping, vacuuming, and restocking supplies.
• Assist in assigned project work, including refinishing floors and cleaning carpet.
• Respond to requests, which may include setting up/tearing down rooms for meetings or class functions, or athletic events and moving furniture/equipment and storing deliveries.
• Perform minor maintenance tasks.
• Assist with the layout and lining of athletic fields.
• Complete snow removal and lawn care duties as required.
• Promptly report all safety hazards to Head Custodian or Maintenance/Custodial Manger.
• Participate actively in all professional development training.
• Maintain a reliable attendance record.
• Complete all trainings as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
