Job summary

The City of Brookhaven is seeking a part-time Custodian to maintain clean and orderly City buildings and properties. The role covers housekeeping, event setup, and basic maintenance within the Park & Recreation department.

Shifts run Saturday and Sunday 6am-4pm and Monday 7am-3:30pm. The position requires a high school diploma, background check, and a Georgia driver’s license; prior custodial experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or equivalent diploma.
• Municipal custodial experience preferred or equivalent training.
• Ability to pass a criminal background check.
• A valid Georgia Driver’s License is required upon appointment.

Responsibilities

• Cleans offices, meeting rooms, lobbies, restrooms, and common areas.
• Sets up rooms and gymnasiums for events and meetings.

# Custodian PTLynwood Park - Brookhaven, GA 30319## OverviewSalary Range$17.71 - $20.24 HourlyPosition TypePart Time## Custodian**JOB SUMMARY**Under the general direction of assigned Park and Recreation supervisor, the employee will maintain clean and orderly conditions for City buildings and subsequent properties. Position functions will include, but not limited to, performing minor maintenance, event setup, and maintaining City grounds. This is an entry-level position that will consist of housekeeping and janitorial work in the areas of cleaning, dusting, and maintaining general office units for the City’s Park and Recreation department.**Able to work Part-time shift hours of Saturday & Sunday 6am-4pm & Monday 7am-3:30pm****ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:***This section of the job description is not intended to be a comprehensive list of duties and responsibilities of the position*. Cleans rugs, carpets, and window coverings.* Dust furniture and equipment as required. Polishes metalwork and washes mirrors.* Empties trash and garbage containers; transport trash and waste to disposal area.* Cleans, washes and disinfects drinking fountains.* Performs and/or reports the need for minor maintenance repairs.* Cleans kitchen sinks and counters.* Replenishes restroom supplies and maintains an adequate supply of cleaning materials and supplies.* Maintains storage and cleaning equipment, materials, and supplies in a safe and orderly manner.* Transports supplies, equipment, and applicable correspondence between City offices.* Maintains a timely and accurate schedule.* Notifies supervisor concerning the need for supplies, major repairs, or additions to lighting, heating, and ventilating equipment.* Cleans sidewalks and grounds, removing debris and litter.* Performs other related duties as assigned.## Qualifications**MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:*** Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.* Municipal custodial experience preferred, or an equivalent combination of training and experience which provide the required knowledge, ability, and skills.* Ability to pass a criminal background check* A valid Georgia Driver’s License is required upon appointment**Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:*** Ability to demonstrate sound judgment; using effective communication when necessary while displaying a courteous attitude when dealing with co-workers, other departments, and the public.* Ability to drive and maintain company vehicle in clean and proper working order.* Knowledge of Brookhaven geography and the location of all Park & Recreation facilities.* Ability to read a City map.* Knowledge of standard cleaning procedures, chemicals, products, and equipment.* Knowledge of the workplace Hazardous Materials Information System.* Skill in operating vacuum cleaners, floor washers, buffers, and related cleaning equipment.* Ability to read and understand labels, instructions, use, and application of cleaning chemicals and products.* Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.* Ability to work effectively with coworkers and around the general public.**PHYSICAL DEMANDS:**The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
