Job Description

Under the supervision of the head custodian, building principal, and director of facilities and transportation, the custodian maintains a safe, clean, and healthy environment at the assigned facility. Responsibilities include custodial, janitorial, and maintenance services to ensure the full educational use of school facilities for students, staff, parents, and the community.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Preferred: Two years of custodial experience.
• Ability to maintain professional relationships with staff and students.
• Physical ability to lift/move up to 50 pounds regularly and up to 90 pounds occasionally.
• Ability to understand and follow instructions in English.
• Experience handling chemical cleaners safely.
• Availability to work during school holidays, weekends, evenings, and overtime as needed.
• Cooperative and helpful attitude.
• Combination of experience and education will be considered.

Responsibilities

1. Maintain school grounds.
2. Coordinate with the head custodian on custodial needs.
3. Follow safety protocols and wear protective gear.
4. Perform cleaning tasks: sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, sanitizing.
5. Assist with snow removal.
6. Manage cleaning supplies and equipment.
7. Ensure building safety and security, including final shift security check.
8. Maintain fire safety standards.
9. Sanitize restrooms and fixtures.
10. Remove refuse.
11. Set up furniture for events and lunch.
12. Communicate effectively with staff and community members.
13. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Additional Information

Salary and benefits are per the KESPA contract. The minimum starting salary is $23.20 per hour.
