Job summary

The City of Goleta is seeking a part-time Custodian to support the Goleta Community Center under the supervision of the Recreation Supervisor. You will provide excellent customer service while performing general custodial duties and routine building maintenance.

Hours are approximately 5-15 per week with evenings, weekends, and on-call shifts as needed. This is a temporary at-will position with no benefits, contingent on successful pre‑employment checks. Position remains open until filled.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Represent the City of Goleta by providing excellent customer service to residents and visitors of the Community Center.
• Perform basic custodial duties including mopping, trash, dusting, and sweeping.
• Assist public with questions related to parks, recreation activities, and facility rentals.
• Assist with set-up and breakdown/cleaning of rooms for Community Center classes or events; open and close facility and pickleball courts as needed.
• Perform routine maintenance on buildings, grounds and equipment.
• Inspect buildings, grounds, and equipment for safety concerns and maintenance needs; report concerns to supervisor.
• Complete reports on attendance, maintenance and other reports as requested.
• Assist in security monitoring of the Community Center and grounds.

Job description

This part-time Custodian position assists in the operations of the Goleta Community Center. Under direct supervision of the Recreation Supervisor, the Custodian will provide excellent customer service while performing a variety of general custodial and routine building maintenance.

Position Overview

This position is expected to work approximately 5-15 hours. Availability to work evenings, weekends, and occasional on-call shifts is required based on operational needs.

This position will work no more than 999 hours in any July through June fiscal year. This is a temporary, part-time, at-will position that is not eligible for employee benefits, except as required by applicable law. This position does not guarantee or create an expectation of continued employment.

Employment is contingent upon successfully completing a pre‑employment physical examination, drug screening, and criminal background check.

Continuous Recruitment: This recruitment will remain open until filled and new applications will be screened on a regular basis.

Examples of Duties

• Use of equipment such as electric mops, floor polishers, and landscaping equipment.

Physical Demands

Must be physically able to lift heavy items up to 50 pounds above and below shoulder height, perform continuous standing walking, reaching, and bending. Work in some positions may require various types of physical exertion, such as: bending, stooping, and lifting; carrying and moving heavy objects such as supplies or equipment, environment may be subject to loud noises, varying temperatures, exposure to noise, dust, fumes, air contaminants, grease, and cleaning agents.
