Job summary

The University of Washington's Housing & Food Services is seeking a Custodian to maintain cleanliness of residence halls, restrooms, common areas, and related facilities, while providing friendly customer service to residents and conference attendees.

This role requires the ability to communicate in English, attention to detail, and the flexibility to work independently with changing priorities; a Washington driver’s license is preferred, and mandatory overtime may apply.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine cleaning of residence halls, restrooms, common areas, kitchens, and other spaces.
  • Operate custodial equipment and perform floor care (stripping, buffing, carpet cleaning).
  • Prepare facilities for occupancy and turnover, including room readiness and linen distribution.
  • Set up and remove furnishings for meetings and events.
  • Conduct facility security checks and report issues as needed.

Job DescriptionHousing & Food Services has an outstanding opportunity for a Custodian to join their team.About this OpportunityReporting to Custodian Supervisor, the Custodian is responsible for performing custodial tasks to maintain cleanliness and care of facilities and providing customer service for residential students and conferees.Key ResponsibilitiesCustodial Services (80% )Perform routine and periodic cleaning, sanitizing, and maintenance of residence halls, restrooms, shower facilities, common areas, kitchens, stairwells, elevators, windows, and other assigned spaces.Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, and maintain floors, furniture, fixtures, and surfaces.Perform specialized floor care, including stripping, buffing, polishing, and carpet cleaning.Operate and maintain custodial equipment and tools.Replenish supplies and ensure facilities meet cleanliness, sanitation, safety, and appearance standards.Follow established safety procedures and guidelines for the use of chemicals, equipment, and supplies.Facilities Support (15%)Prepare residential and conference facilities for occupancy and turnover, including room readiness, bed preparation, linen distribution, and inventory management.Set up and remove furnishings and equipment for meetings, conferences, and events.Maintain exterior areas adjacent to facilities by removing debris, snow, and other hazards.Operate University vehicles to transport supplies, equipment, and materials between locations.Security & Reporting (5% )Conduct facility security checks and report unauthorized occupants, safety concerns, and facility issues.Identify and report maintenance and repair needs.Maintain basic records and reports related to assigned work.Required QualificationsTo be considered for this opportunity your application must demonstrate you meet both the minimum qualifications and additional qualifications listed below.
