Job summary

South Plains College in Levelland, TX seeks a custodian to keep assigned campus buildings clean and orderly, performing duties such as sweeping, mopping, waxing floors, trash removal, and cleaning restrooms and classrooms.

Requires a high school diploma or GED (or related experience), basic reading and math, and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds. This is a non-supervisory, on-site position with standard custodial responsibilities.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; or 1–3 months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
• Ability to write simple correspondence.
• Ability to effectively present information to students, faculty, and other employees of the college.
• Physical ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds.

Keeps assigned campus building or area in clean and orderly condition by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Sweeps, mops, scrubs, and vacuums hallways, stairs and office space as assigned.

Wax and buff floors.

Empties trash and garbage containers.

Cleans windows, restrooms, classrooms, offices, and public areas.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree ( GED ); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to students, faculty, and other employees of the college.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
