This position involves performing difficult semiskilled custodial work to maintain cleanliness in school buildings, grounds, and furnishings. The employee receives classroom and hands-on training in cleaning tools, equipment, supplies, safety, and personal protection, and supervises other custodial staff members.

Responsibilities include:

• Serving as the head custodian in a high school or middle school.
• Opening building, checking for intrusions or vandalism, setting up for meetings and events, receiving deliveries, maintaining restrooms, and securing the building.
• Assigning duties to staff, checking school grounds, preparing for events, cleaning hallways, responding to cleanup calls, maintaining supplies, and setting up for activities.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Thorough knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment; ability to follow directions; establish effective working relationships; supervise staff; and communicate effectively in English.

Qualifications:

• Required: GED or some high school, considerable custodial experience.
• Preferred: High School Diploma.

Equivalent training and experience may be considered.

Physical Requirements:

Must have sensory skills to communicate and interact effectively; frequent walking, standing, bending, grasping, repetitive motions; occasional stooping, balancing, crouching, kneeling; ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and over 50 pounds rarely. Work involves exposure to dirt, dust, fumes, chemicals, and loud noises. Adherence to work schedules is essential.
