An established educational institution is seeking a dedicated custodian to maintain the cleanliness of school facilities. This role involves performing a variety of cleaning tasks, supervising other custodial staff, and ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for students and staff. The ideal candidate will possess effective cleaning techniques, strong communication skills, and the ability to work well with others. Performs intermediate level custodial work in maintaining the cleanliness of school buildings and surrounding grounds. An employee in this position receives classroom and hands-on-training in the use of cleaning tools, equipment and supplies, and safety and personal protection necessary to perform custodial work. Supervise other custodial staff members.
Must have a knowledge of effective cleaning techniques and routine preventive maintenance; knowledge of cleaning materials, supplies, equipment, building fixtures and equipment. Ability to learn and properly utilize various machines/equipment especially as machines/equipment is upgraded; ability to express ideas clearly, both orally and in writing; ability to plan, train and provide work direction to other in a manner that is conducive to full performance and high morale of the employee; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators and staff. Must be able to respond to emergencies and work in inclement weather, as needed; must be able to rotate between a day/night shift, as directed.
Required: GED or some high school
Preferred: High School Diploma. Some custodial experience Some experience leading other custodians in a school setting.
A comparable amount of training and experience maybe substituted for the minimum qualifications.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public using the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls. Frequent walking, standing, bending, grasping, repetitive motion, and reaching, Occasional stooping, balancing, crouching, kneeling, and fingering. Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements such as dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, extreme vibrations, hazards such as electric current, exposure to chemicals, moving mechanical parts, etc. and/or loud noises. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and over 50 pounds rarely. Requires timely and regular adherence to established work schedules. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential tasks.

Compensation will be based on job-related creditable years of full-time, verified work experience. The entry-level rate will be awarded at the time of hire. Upon the return of employment verification forms from the candidate's current and previous employers, the rate will be adjusted if creditable full-time experience is confirmed.
