Job Summary:
This is a position responsible for the safety and security of students, staff, and the community involving the cleaning and minor maintenance of a School District building and its surrounding grounds.
Nature of Work:
Under general supervision, a Custodian II is responsible for the cleanliness, orderliness, and maintenance of a school building as well as the neat appearance of surrounding grounds. Custodians are generally assigned to a specific building but may provide services for other buildings when necessary. The work requires initiative since custodians are expected to work independently in the performance of normal work activities. Instructions are received from the Custodial Services Specialist, Assistant Custodial Services Specialist, Head Custodian, or their designee on matters of policy and new assignments. The duties and responsibilities listed below are not an all-inclusive list but are representative of the type of work required by this position.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Routine housekeeping, cleaning, and washroom sanitation of a school district owned building and grounds. Typical duties will be sweep, mop and scrub floors and other surfaces.
- Clean and dust furniture, windows, doors, trim and related furnishings; use buffing machines and walk behind floor scrubbing machines.
- Clean and service lavatories, toilet rooms and restrooms; move furniture, supplies and miscellaneous equipment as directed.
- Custodians may be required to close and secure the building windows, doors and set the security alarm.
- Snow removal with shovels and operating snow removal equipment, salting entrances and walkways to keep school grounds in safe condition. Set up and tear downs of school activities.
- Custodians are further responsible for performing minor maintenance on boilers, air handling units and other equipment as needed/assigned. Other misc./common duties related to the upkeep of a facility as directed by the Head Custodian.
Physical Requirements:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear.
- The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and taste or smell.
- Must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
- The position may also require close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
