Salary Range : $ 36,122 - $46,609 annually .Compensation will be commensurate upon experience andqualifications. This position is Non-Exempt from the Fair LaborStandards Act (FLSA) overtime provisions.

Summary

The Custodian II – Custodial Lead provides comprehensive cleaning,sanitation, and facility support services across a wide range ofcampus environments, including academic buildings, researchlaboratories, offices, student centers, dining facilities, andhigh-traffic public spaces. This position ensures all areas aresafe, clean, and well-maintained to support teaching, research,student engagement, and campus life. The role supports both routineoperations and campus events, delivering responsive, high-qualityservice in dynamic, high-use environments. As a work lead, theposition assists with coordinating daily assignments, monitoringservice quality, and supporting staff training. This role requiresindependent judgment to prioritize work across diverse facilitytypes while adhering to established custodial, safety, andsustainability standards.

Essential Functions

The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but arenot limited to:

• Custodial Operations & Facility Maintenance – 75%
  • Perform comprehensive cleaning and sanitation_of diverse campusfacilities, including classrooms, research laboratories, offices, student centers, dining facilities, recreation areas, and publicgathering spaces.
  • Maintain restrooms, instructional spaces, lab environments,food service areas, and high-traffic common spaces with attentionto sanitation, safety, and presentation standards.
  • Execute both routine and rapid-response cleaning to addressspills, high occupancy impacts, laboratory requirements, andcustomer service needs in real time.
  • Clean and maintain floors, fixtures, furnishings, windows, andspecialized surfaces using established methods and APPA-alignedstandards.
  • Remove waste and recycling materials, including high-volumedisposal needs in dining, lab, and event environments.
  • Replenish custodial, sanitation, and consumable supplies toensure uninterrupted service across varied building types.
  • Identify and report maintenance, safety, or environmentalconcerns, particularly in specialized spaces such as labs andhigh-use facilities.
  • Utilize CMMS (TMA) and departmental systems to manageassignments, document work, and support operational reporting.
  • Apply sustainable practices and ensure proper chemical handlingin alignment with safety standards, including considerations forlab and dining environments.
  • Independently prioritize work based on building schedules,research activity, events, and customer demand across multiplefacility types.
• Event Support, Work Leadership & Team Coordination– 20%
  • Prepare, maintain, and restore spaces for campus events acrossacademic and non-academic facilities, including classrooms,auditoriums, student centers, and dining/event venues.
  • Provide real-time custodial support during events, ensuringspaces remain clean, safe, and responsive to participantneeds.
  • Serve as a work lead by coordinating daily custodialassignments across varied environments with competingpriorities.
  • Inspect completed work to ensure compliance with custodial,sanitation, and presentation standards across all facilitytypes.
  • Assist with onboarding and training of new employees onprocedures, safety protocols, and expectations for both academicand public-facing spaces.
  • Coordinate coverage and communicate staffing or operationalgaps due to absences, events, or fluctuating building usage.
  • Provide backup operational leadership in the absence of aCustodian III or supervisor.
• Equipment Maintenance & Operational Readiness – 2%
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, and perform minor maintenance on custodial equipment to support operations across multiple facilitytypes.
  • Maintain chemical dilution systems and ensure properfunctionality, particularly in environments with specializedsanitation needs (labs, dining areas).
  • Identify equipment issues and elevate repair needs to ensureminimal disruption to cleaning operations.
• Seasonal Support & Emergency Response – 1%
  • Perform snow removal, ice mitigation, and exterior safetysupport for academic buildings, residence-adjacent areas, andhigh-traffic public entrances.
  • Respond as essential personnel to emergencies, weather events,and urgent operational needs impacting campus safety andcontinuity.
  • May be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays basedon operational needs.
• Professional Development & Additional Duties – 2%
  • Participate in required safety, custodial, and specializedtraining (including lab safety and sanitation practices whereapplicable).
  • Apply training to improve efficiency, safety compliance, andservice quality across varied campus environments.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhancecustomer experience and operational effectiveness within FacilitiesServices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support Facilities Servicesoperations.

Qualifications :

• To be considered for this role, you must possess the ability toperform custodial cleaning, sanitation, and facility support workacross varied environments such as academic spaces, public-usefacilities, and/or similar commercial settings.
• Demonstrated ability to operate custodial equipment and safelyuse cleaning chemicals in accordance with manufacturer guidelines,environmental health standards, and workplace safety practices isrequired.
• Experience supporting building operations in environments withvarying levels of use and complexity, including the ability toprioritize work based on schedules, occupancy, events, or customerneeds, is required.
• Experience identifying facility maintenance or safety concernsand communicating effectively with supervisors or maintenance teamsto support timely resolution is required.
• Experience providing work guidance, training, or informalleadership to others in a team-based environment is highlydesirable.
• Familiarity with specialized cleaning considerations inenvironments such as research laboratories, food service areas, orother regulated spaces is highly desirable.
• To be considered for this role you must possess and maintain avalid Driver's License.
• Substitution: Relevant experience may substitute for formaleducation on a year-for-year basis.
• Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
• Required to report to campus within designated timeframe foressential operations.
