Position Summary

The starting hourly wage for this position is $18.78. This posting is open until 11:59 p.m. on 05/16/2025. All applications must be received before the deadline.

Physical Plant Services (PPS) supports Fort Lewis College by providing operations support, maintenance services, and managing construction programs. The Custodian Services unit ensures a safe, clean, and functional campus, supporting maintenance and college events. This is an essential position requiring work during inclement weather, emergencies, and campus events. Shift differential and overtime eligibility are applicable, with some weekend work expected.

Job Responsibilities
  • Cleaning entryways, lounges, hallways, bathrooms, kitchens, labs, and other areas
  • Performing sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, trash removal, window cleaning, fixture cleaning, and surface disinfection
  • Inspecting and maintaining cleanliness and safety, including snow and debris removal
  • Snow shoveling and salt spreading
  • Supporting campus event setup and takedown
  • Deep cleaning of student and conference guest accommodations and common areas
  • Building rapport with students and providing campus resource information
  • Reporting maintenance needs and restocking supplies
  • Monitoring building conditions and communicating issues
  • Heavy lifting up to 50 lbs. required
  • Team coordination and adaptability to last-minute changes
Minimum Qualifications

6 months of full-time custodial experience in commercial, institutional, or industrial settings.

  • Basic computer skills (timesheets, work orders, emails, SDS sheets)
  • Reading, writing, and comprehension skills
  • Customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and in teams
  • Active listening and flexibility
  • Physical ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch
  • Tolerance for noise, vibration, and weather conditions
  • Ability to follow policies and cooperate with staff
  • Polite and professional communication with internal and external customers
Conditions of Employment
  • Background check and post-offer evaluation of lifting ability required
  • Must work during inclement weather, emergencies, and campus closures
  • Valid driver’s license required at application and maintained throughout employment
  • Driving record review and approval necessary for campus vehicle operation
