MADISON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DISTRICT #38

TITLE:CUSTODIAN I (NIGHT LEAD)

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Possess high school diploma, GED or relevant experience.
  2. Two years of experience in custodial supervision preferred.
  3. Lift and manipulate equipment and materials weighing up to 100 lbs.
  4. Operate equipment in a safe manner.
  5. Relate to public, staff, and students in a positive manner.

JOB GOAL:

This position is responsible for providing direction and supervision for assigned custodial staff with minimal supervision. Keep the District school buildings in such a state of operating excellence that they present no problems or interruptions to the educational program.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provide instruction in work methods and assist the Plant Manager in training and orientation of new employees.
  2. Clean classrooms, cafeterias, hallways, restrooms, locker rooms, sidewalks, and other assigned areas.
  3. Sweep, dust, vacuum, scrub, wax, and polish floors.
  4. Wash windows, walls, woodwork, and equipment.
  5. Empty trash receptacles.
  6. Move furniture and equipment for cleaning and special events.
  7. Replace light bulbs.
  8. Perform minor maintenance and repair work.
  9. Report safety hazards or needs for major repairs.
  10. Ensure security of building and grounds.
  11. Work with after-school activities as per Plant Manager and/or Campus Administrator instructions.
  12. Report attendance of night custodians to the Plant Manager.
  13. Supervise other custodial staff.
  14. Understand and apply safety-related precautions as outlined in SDS (safety data sheets).
  15. Operate equipment including, but not limited to, hand tools, buffer, vacuum, auto-scrubber, blower, carpet machine, wet-dry vacuum, sidewalk sweeper, carpet cleaner, etc.
  16. Maintain working proficiency with general computer applications and stay current with email.
  17. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Plant Manager and/or Campus Administrator.
  18. Provide back-up supervision in the absence of the Plant Manager.
  19. Other duties as assigned.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret documents in English as well as the ability to write routine correspondence in English. Ability to speak effectively in English before groups or employees.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations/issues. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written and verbal form.

EVALUATION:

Performance will be evaluated by the Plant Manager.

SUPERVISION:

Supervised by the Plant Manager and, in their absence, the Principal and/or Director of Maintenance and Transportation. Exercises no supervisory responsibilities.

GRADE / LENGTH OF WORK YEAR:

Grade C $16.59-$20.53 (DOE)

52-week position/Hours are for evening shift, approximately 1:00 PM - 9:30 PM and may vary by school.
