Description of Work

Responsibilities:

• Perform routine cleaning and upkeep of academic buildings, including offices, halls, conference rooms, classrooms, restrooms, and locker/shower rooms.
• Scrub, strip, refinish, and polish floors using industrial cleaning equipment.
• Vacuum and clean carpets with industrial vacuums and extractors.
• Mix cleaning solutions according to instructions.
• Collect and dispose of refuse.
• Remove snow and ice from building steps.
• Move objects weighing 50 pounds or more for events.

Custodians may be hired at higher levels based on qualifications, which may include training, overseeing others, emergency response, operating specialized equipment, and ordering supplies. Continuous supervision and training are provided, with regular assessments for advancement.

Qualifications:

Custodian I, II, III, IV:

• Minimum eighth-grade education.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Understanding of cleaning chemicals and proper dilution.
• Ability to operate large cleaning equipment.
• Must lift 50 lbs.

Custodian II, III, IV:

• At least 6 months custodial experience.
• Ability to interpret custodial maps.
• Proficiency in skills from the custodial ladder program.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prior custodial experience is preferred for Custodian I.

Salary

Starting at $15.00/hr
