Hours: 2:30 p.m. - 10:30 p.m

Salary: $22.69 per hour

Title: Custodian I

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent educational background.
  • Knowledge of proper cleaning practices/procedures in an educational environment.
  • Ability to perform semi-skilled building and equipment repairs.
  • Ability to use landscape and snow removal equipment.
  • Other acceptable alternatives as determined by the Board.
Reports To:

Facilities Operations Manager or Head of Building Operations

Job Goal:

To maintain a clean, healthy, and safe environment for students, staff, and visitors.

Performance Responsibilities:
  • Maintain cleanliness of building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas.
  • Perform cleaning tasks such as sweeping, dusting, mopping, vacuuming, graffiti removal, waxing, scrubbing, stripping, polishing, window cleaning, and trash removal.
  • Perform outdoor tasks including snow and ice removal, mowing, trimming, edging, leaf raking, and keeping grounds free of litter and debris.
  • Sanitize restrooms and perform interior and exterior painting.
  • Follow written and oral instructions.
  • Maintain custodial closets and storerooms.
  • Secure buildings and equipment.
  • Maintain and mark athletic fields.
  • Inspect and maintain life safety equipment.
  • Climb ladders and scaffolding as needed.
  • Perform minor maintenance tasks such as changing lamps and ceiling tiles.
  • Set up and break down chairs, tables, and equipment for events.
  • Report building deficiencies and damages promptly.
  • Maintain pool facilities when applicable.
  • Perform other delegated tasks as assigned.
Terms of Employment:

Twelve-month position, salary and work year per contract with Local 1933.

Physical Demands:

Very Heavy

Working Conditions:

Inside and outside, with temperature extremes, humidity, noise, fumes, dust, and possible exposure to toxic substances.

Evaluation:

Performance will be evaluated according to the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Non-Certified Staff.
