Job summary

Michigan State University Infrastructure Planning and Facilities is seeking a Custodian I for the Vet Medical Center in East Lansing, MI. This full-time pool posting covers two evening shifts, Monday–Friday, 4:30 PM to 1:00 AM, with possible after-hours, weekends, and holidays.

Pay rate is $19.15–$20.16 per hour after probation, with comprehensive health care for you and your family and a 10% retirement contribution. Generous sick, vacation, personal and holiday time are provided.

Qualifications

• One-year experience with commercial or institutional cleaning methods, techniques and equipment.
• Frequent lifting of up to 25 pounds is required, occasional lifting of 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• 40% - Perform cleaning duties such as sweeping, dusting, mopping, and vacuuming of floors using cleaning equipment.
• 20% - Clean and disinfect restrooms including showers, toilets, urinals, sinks, towel dispensers and mirrors.
• 20% - Dust and wash windows, mirrors, interior glass, tracks, blinds, and ledges; manage recycling.
• 10% - Spot wash to remove marks; polish sinks and fixtures.
• 10% - Correspondence via email, training, meetings and professional development.

This Position Details

This is a pool posting for two positions. Both positions would work in the Vet Med Center, working Monday - Friday: 4:30PM - 1:00AM. May be required to work after-hours, weekends, and holidays.

Job Responsibilities

• 40% - Perform cleaning duties such as sweeping, dusting, mopping, and vacuuming of hard surface and carpeted floors utilizing appropriate cleaning equipment such as vacuums, mops, brooms. Clean and maintain assigned equipment.
• 20% - Clean and disinfect restrooms including showers, toilets, urinals, sinks, towel dispensers and mirrors.
• 20% - Dust and wash windows, mirrors, interior glass window casing and tracks, venetian blinds and ledges. Dust furniture equipment, and furnishings moving same as necessary. Empty waste containers. Collect and sort recycling materials within building.
• 10% - Spot wash to remove such items as splash marks around sinks and fingerprints from light switches. Clean and polish sinks, shower heads and fountains.
• 10% - Correspondence through email, training, meetings and professional development.
