University of Michigan at Dearborn is seeking a Custodian I to perform custodial duties across campus facilities. The role uses standard cleaning systems and powers cleaning equipment. This position is designated as a critical employee in emergencies.
The job includes cleaning restrooms, offices, and all areas, stocking supplies, and performing laundry tasks. It requires ability to lift up to 50 pounds and a minimum of two years custodial experience. English communication is essential.
The Custodian I performs all custodial duties using our team cleaning system, including the use of a 13-20 pound backpack vacuum. The basic custodial duties include cleaning restrooms, picking up debris on floors, cleaning offices and all areas of the building. This position operates equipment used for routine maintenance work including but not limited to power washers, upholstery and carpet spot cleaning machines, and counter rotating brush carpet pile lifters. Custodial staff are considered critical employees which means, in the event of a University of Michigan-Dearborn emergency reduction in operations, including a public health emergency, suspension of academic classes, or during weather-related reductions in operations, the Manager of Building Services has designated this position as critical.

The pay will follow the AFSCME contract pay grade: probation period $19.66 and $21.06 after a successful completion of a 6-month probationary period.
Candidates must be able to be lawfully employed in the United States; sponsorship to obtain such status is not available at this time.
This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the AFSCME union, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
