The Virginian is currently recruiting a Full-Time and Part-Time custodian or housekeeper to join our Resident Services/EVS team.

Duties will include but are not limited to:
  • Vacuum and spot clean carpets and other soft surfaces.
  • Dust and mop floors as assigned.
  • Empty trash in all offices and public areas.
  • Clean and sanitize toilets and sinks.
  • Clean office spaces.
  • Polish all chrome-related items including interior/exterior of elevators and outer area of landing trash cans.
  • Vacuum dust and reset public spaces ready for next day site tours.
  • Assist in maintaining a showroom appearance in all spaces of the community.
  • Assist in maintaining cleanliness of all common areas within the community.
  • Assist in cleaning resident apartments and healthcare units as assigned.
  • Assist with organization of furniture, supplies, and other items to keep up with event and resident requests.
  • Perform a variety of custodian and housekeeping duties to maintain an attractive, clean, and comfortable environment to meet the needs of residents.
  • Exemplify community standards of cleanliness and sanitation.
  • Communicate with overnight security regarding location and any unusual occurrences.
  • Obtain and wear communication device (phone or walkie-talkie) at the beginning of each shift.
  • Alert security or reception when reporting and leaving for duty/break.

Applies knowledge of cleaning processes to clean, shampoo, scrub, polish, and/or wax specialized flooring such as carpet, marble, terrazzo, stone, and tile.

Applies safety techniques and storage methods in the completion of daily cleaning activities and revises schedules if warranted.

Ensures equipment is maintained in proper working condition.

Anticipates egress/ingress safety concerns and places floor mats as necessary at entrances to ensure resident and employee safety.

Maintains awareness of supply levels and initiates reorder when supply goes below required levels.

Qualifications:
  • 3+ years' experience as a Custodian or Janitor in a hotel or healthcare environment is a plus.
  • Must have reliable personal transportation.
  • Capable of constant standing and walking; frequent bending at the waist, twisting, pushing/pulling, and occasional kneeling; and lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • Three to six months' experience in housekeeping or custodian position required.
  • Proficiency in the English language enabling the employee to read, write, comprehend, and communicate simple instructions, correspondence, memos, etc.

Schedule: Monday-Friday (weekend coverage may be needed).

Compensation: $16-$19 an hour with great benefits!
