Job description

Under the direction of a Crew Supervisor or other supervisor in a state department, institution, or agency, the employee may be assigned to work with mechanics, carpenters, electricians, painters, plumbers, and steamfitters to clean and maintain offices, furniture, buildings, grounds, and perform repairs. The role involves related work as required.

Requirements:

• Inspects and determines cleaning and maintenance work to be done and materials needed.
• Sweeps, washes, cleans, and waxes floors; washes windows and woodwork; and performs other cleaning tasks in offices, halls, living quarters, cafeterias, classrooms, gymnasiums, auditoriums, kitchens, lavatories, dormitories, and other units.
• Dusts, waxes, and polishes desks, tables, chairs, office equipment, and furniture.
• Collects and disposes of waste papers and refuse, sweeps sidewalks, and removes papers, refuse, trash, and weeds from outside grounds.
• Cleans washrooms, toilets, sinks, and fixtures; ensures availability of towels, tissues, and soap.
• Rearranges and relocates office furniture, records, and supplies.
• Dusts and cleans venetian blinds; cleans, places, and replaces window and door screens.
• May assist in snow removal and periodically checks fuel and housekeeping supplies.
• Ensures doors are locked at the end of the workday.
• Washes blackboards; reports and replaces damaged appliances, equipment, and supplies.
• Replaces electric light bulbs; obtains, stores, safeguards, records, and properly uses department equipment, materials, and supplies.

Knowledge and Abilities:

• Knowledge of inspection and determination of cleaning and maintenance work and required materials.
• Knowledge of routines and methods in large-scale cleaning and maintenance.
• Knowledge of problems encountered and materials, tools, procedures used in cleaning floors, woodwork, furniture, and fixtures.
