The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, knowledge of custodial procedures, and the ability to operate cleaning equipment.

Strong communication and teamwork are essential, with experience using Microsoft Office and Google Workspace considered assets.

Qualifications

  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school.
  • General knowledge of custodial operating procedures, practices and instructions and ability to perform simple maintenance repairs.
  • Ability to establish and follow work procedures with speed and accuracy.
  • Have a working knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment.
  • Proficiency in the use of a variety of custodial equipment and cleaning supplies.
  • Aware of fire, health, and safety factors and precautions.
  • Experience working directly with individuals and families from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Familiarity with equity and inclusion frameworks. Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities. Respects the worth, dignity and individual differences of others.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains all areas of the building and grounds as required for proper care and cleanliness.
  • Operates all necessary power equipment required for proper care and cleanliness of the building and grounds.
  • Maintains the custodial supply room.
  • Maintains an inventory for all custodial supplies and equipment.
  • Operates heating, lighting, ventilation and electrical controls as specified.
  • Operates fire safety systems.
  • Inspects buildings and equipment and report deficiencies.
  • Ensures weekend/evening/holiday coverage and building lock-up.
  • Strives constantly to promote the safety, health, and comfort of students and employees.
  • Takes all industry standard precautions to protect students, staff, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintains appropriate state licensure; assumes responsibility for and participates in staff development (professional growth) and training to keep materials, supplies, and skills up-to-date.
  • Follows appropriate safety procedures and properly maintains equipment.
  • Actively participates in and attends all required meetings.
  • Maintains confidentiality when appropriate.
  • Complies with and supports school division policies, regulations, procedures, and the HCPS Strategic Plan.
  • Effectively performs other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.
