For over 125 years, Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens has been providing quality social services to the neighborhoods of Brooklyn and Queens, and currently offers 160-plus programs and services for children, youth, adults, seniors, and those struggling with mental illness.
Our Early Childhood Development Centers provide free Early Head Start and Head Start services to low-income families. Head Start provides services to children age 3 to 5 years old. Through the Montessori approach, the center ensures children are ready for school by providing a variety of developmentally appropriate activities that promote cognitive, social, emotional, language-literacy and physical development.
STATEMENT OF THE JOB:
Under the supervision of the Program Manager the Custodian will be required to ensure the center is maintained in a clean, sanitary condition for the benefit of those attending the program and in compliance with health and safety rules and regulations.
• Sweeps, mops, and waxes floors of classrooms, offices, halls, kitchen and bathrooms of center so they are kept in a clean and sanitary condition.
• Conducts monthly cleanings of range hood, if any, and its parts as required by the City
• Division of Fire Prevention.
• Records supplies and equipment; Informs Program Manager/Educational Director of needed sanitary and cleaning supplies and repairs and replacements of cleaning equipment.
• Assists with food service as needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• High School Diploma required.
• 2 years of experience in general custodial duties, such as cleaning, repairing, and painting preferred.
• Bilingual Spanish/English; Russian/English; Chinese/English; Korean/English; English/Creole speaking preferred.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight 50 pounds including the occasional moving of furniture and setting up and replacing chairs, etc.
• Able to travel to multiple locations within the five boroughs as needed.
