Job summary

Kettering University in Flint, MI is seeking a full-time Custodian to maintain clean, safe, and welcoming facilities across campus. The role involves cleaning restrooms, classrooms, labs, offices, and common areas, plus operating custodial equipment and supporting event setup.

The position requires stamina for an eight-hour day and lifting up to 50 lbs, with duties including training others, coordinating schedules, supervising quality of work, and assisting groundskeeping as needed.

Qualifications

• Ability to perform the job functions for an eight (8) hour day, five (5) days a week including standing, walking, lifting up to 50 lbs, and outdoor work.
• Completion of required training on Bloodborne Pathogens and other safety courses.
• Demonstrated initiative and independent judgment.
• Experience in training other custodians in methods and equipment operation.
• Experience in team or project coordination.

Responsibilities

• Clean and maintain restrooms, stairways, chalk boards, locker rooms, classrooms, laboratories, offices, shops, etc.
• Perform floor, wall, ceiling and glass cleaning and care.
• Operate custodial equipment safely and effectively.
• Coordinate work schedules and supervise quality of work; provide input on performance.
• Train other custodians in proper methods and equipment operation.
• Assist in room/event setup and breakdown.
• Assist groundskeeping with snow and weed removal as needed.
• Maintain inventory and supplies.
• Perform other duties and ensure coverage with coworkers.
• Comply with university safety and security policies and report hazards.
