Job summary

Boundary Community Hospital is seeking a custodian/maintenance worker to perform routine housekeeping and light maintenance in our facilities in Bonners Ferry, ID. You will follow infection control standards, clean floors, trash removal, and assist with general upkeep.

Schedule: Sun-Thurs, 4pm–12:30am. Requires a HS diploma or GED (or 1 year related experience) and a valid driver’s license. Background check required. Previous custodial/maintenance experience is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Ability to interpret written, oral, diagram or schedule instructions.
  • English reading/writing ability and clear communication.

Responsibilities

  • Perform floor care (mopping, stripping, waxing, buffing, carpet care).
  • Clean and service buildings to maintain sanitary environment per infection control standards.
  • Empty trash and perform back‑up housekeeping duties as needed.

Position Summary

Performs routine and delegated custodial, housekeeping, and maintenance duties in accordance with the philosophies, objectives, policies, and procedures of Boundary Community Hospital and the Facilities Department.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/REQUIREMENTS:
  • Performs floor care such as mopping, stripping, waxing, buffing and carpet care.
  • Cleans and services building and ground areas to maintain an orderly and sanitary environment, meeting infection control standards.
  • Empties trash throughout all buildings.
  • Performs back-up housekeeping duties as needed.
  • Maintains equipment, properly cleaning and stowing after each use.
  • Moves furniture, equipment, and supplies in and between hospital departments as needed
  • Responsible for minor repairs such as wall repair and painting.
  • Cleans accumulated dust, dirt, and debris.
  • Performs light maintenance duties, such as clearing toilets, changing lightbulbs, etc.
  • Uses ladder to access overhead cleaning and maintenance duties.
  • Operates machinery safely and properly, reporting any malfunctions or maintenance needs.
  • Performs groundskeeping as needed, such as snow removal, lawn mowing, weeding, and pruning.
  • Documents completed work as necessary in books or computer charting.
  • Follows all departmental procedures.
  • Safety oriented. Reports and mitigates hazards.
  • Patrols hospital building and grounds to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and illegal entry
  • Reports any incidents or unusual situations immediately to department manager or House Supervisor
  • Responds to emergency alarms and assists with emergency situations as directed.
  • Must portray a positive, courteous, and professional image to patients, families, visitors, co-workers and physicians.
  • Able to communicate and receive feedback in a positive manner
  • Able to establish and maintain healthy interpersonal relationships with all staff members
  • Must be flexible and willing to work different shifts, rotations and call in, under pressure timelines and with limited supervision
  • Maintains strict confidentiality regarding knowledge of all patient information (HIPAA), confidential staff and hospital business

Schedule: Sun-Thurs; 4pm-12:30am

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School diploma or GED preferred or minimum of one-year related work experience
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • Ability to communicate in visual, audible, and/or written form.
  • Ability to make standard precaution decisions and apply appropriate PPE.
  • Education: Ability to read, write legibly, and comprehend the written and spoken word in English
  • Valid driver's license required
  • Must be able to successfully pass a background check
  • Experience: Previous custodial, maintenance, or housekeeping experience preferred
