Overview

Perform general housekeeping duties and duties as a custodian. This person will substitute during the illness or vacation of a regular custodian or float from area to area. Schedule may differ depending on time of year. Additional hours may be required with little or no prior notice. Will be required to work during delays and snow closure days that may fall on scheduled workdays. Will be required to work overtime on short notice to include evenings, weekends, special events and call ins at the discretion of the appropriate supervisor. Will be required to work in different buildings/locations to accommodate needs of work unit. May require travel between buildings during shift

The schedule is Sunday through Thursday, from 10:00 PM to 3:00 AM; however, the schedule may vary and will include Friday and Saturday when there are weekend events.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

• High School Diploma or GED or equivalent. Preferred

EXPERIENCE

• Less than 1 year Experience as a custodian. Preferred
• Less than 1 year Familiarity with automated cleaning equipment. Preferred

ABILITIES AND SKILLS

• Ability to read, write, and interpret instructions. Required
• Possession of a valid driver's license. Preferred

Responsibilities

• Dispose of trash.
• Sweep, dust mop, and wet mop areas.
• Vacuum and shampoo carpeted areas.
• Clean fountains, ashtrays, and blackboards.
• Dust and/or wash areas requiring same.
• Clean restrooms and replenish supplies.
• Wash windows and door glass.
• Strip and refinish floors and maintain all types of floor surfaces.
• Sweep stairs and stairwells and wash same.
• Remove ice and snow from stairs, entrances, and walks.
• Wash walls, window ledges, woodwork, furnishings; remove graffiti.
• Replace light bulbs and tubes; clean light fixtures.
• Submit supply and repair requisitions to Supervisor.
• Keep housekeeping equipment clean and perform minor repairs on same. When leaving buildings, responsible for seeing that buildings are properly secured. Substitute for other custodians during illness or vacation as requested by Supervisor.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• May direct activities of work study students.
• Set up areas for special events as requested.
• Function as an attendant at special College events.

Physical Standards and Special Job Features

• Exposure to dust and harsh chemicals in performing duties.
• Lifting of 65 lbs. maximum, without assistance, with frequent lifting and carrying of objects up to 50 lbs.
• May require climbing or working off of ladders and scaffolding.

Pay Transparency

$15.63 per hour, plus shift differential
