Responsibilities

• Strip, seal, and finish floors; vacuum and shampoo carpets.
• Operate cleaning equipment and tools safely.
• Lock/unlock buildings and secure premises.
• Follow chemical handling instructions and safety procedures.
• Move furniture, equipment, and supplies as needed.
• Wash walls and windows and clean blinds.
• Attend emergencies and safety meetings.
• Assist with inventory control and security.

CUSTODIAN-FLOATER

JOB DESCRIPTION:

To maintain schools and other facilities to the extent that students and employees can work in a healthy and safe environment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must possess a High School Diploma and have previous custodial experience

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Report to the Head Custodian, who is responsible for directing housekeeping services in the facility.
• Clean and sanitize restrooms/bathrooms using established practices and procedures.
• Clean, dust, and wipe furniture; sweep, mop, or vacuum floors; empty/clean wastebaskets and trash containers; refill restroom dispensers.
• Assist with setting up facilities for meetings, classrooms, conferences, events, etc.
• Strip, clean, buff, and apply floor sealer and floor finish to hard-surface floors; vacuum and shampoo carpets.
• Use and maintain assigned power equipment and hand tools, including buffers, auto scrubbers, extractors, high-pressure washers, high-speed buffers and vacuums, brooms, mops, and squeegees, for the cleaning and general maintenance of floors, walls, carpets, furniture, etc.
• Wash walls and equipment; use ladders when required in work assignments.
• Lock and unlock assigned buildings; secure the building when facilities are not in use, checking for unlocked doors and windows, report any unauthorized occupants, and turn off lights.
• Follow the instructions for using chemicals and supplies. Use as directed.
• Move furniture, equipment, supplies, and tools on an incidental basis.
• Wash accessible interior and exterior windows. Clean blinds.
• Attend emergencies when necessary.
• Attend safety meetings and other related meetings.
• Assist with inventory control and security.
• Safely operate all vehicles and other job-related equipment.
• Support and enforce all applicable policies, including MIOSHA and others.
• Enforce and support policies established by the Maintenance/Custodial Director.
• Ability to read and follow directions. Positive interpersonal skills are needed to enhance team spirit and cooperation, as well as to operate and maintain equipment.
• Perform all other duties as assigned by the Maintenance/Custodial Director.

Occasionally, the employee will seek assistance when lifting or moving items weighing over 50 pounds, such as salt and bulk furniture. The employee will sometimes push/pull items such as tables, bleachers, and scrubbing machines. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
• The employee must have normal vision and hearing with or without aid.
• The employee must be able to move about the assigned location unaided during the day.

SALARY: $19.25/hour to start
