Job summary

The Virginia Beach Field House is seeking a Custodian/Facility Staff member to maintain cleanliness and operation of a large indoor sports facility. This role requires attention to detail, reliability, and the ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Responsibilities include cleaning floors, restrooms, and common areas, stocking supplies, and assisting with occasional maintenance tasks to ensure a safe, welcoming environment for guests.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
• Ability to operate general cleaning machines (vacuum, buffers, Zamboni, polishers).
• Ability to follow oral directions and work independently.

Responsibilities

• Maintain cleanliness and supply levels across facility areas.
• Perform extensive cleaning of floors, walls, glass, and waste management.
• Service and stock restrooms and locker rooms; manage restroom supplies.
• Assist with exterior cleaning and routine facility maintenance.

The Virginia Beach Field House is Virginia’s premier indoor sports facility. With over 175,000 square feet, we offer leagues, camps, clinics, and tournaments for youth and adults in soccer, flag football, volleyball, basketball, arena (indoor) baseball and softball, field hockey, lacrosse, dodge ball, sand volleyball, sand flag football, sand soccer and other social sports. We also host birthday and team parties, corporate events, and other organized activities. The Virginia Beach Field House has 6 turf fields, 8 regulation volleyball courts, 4 basketball courts, 8 sand volleyball courts, 2 sand fields, multiple party rooms, an arcade, and an indoor Fun Zone. Guests are encouraged to visit our fully stocked food court and lounge. In addition, we proudly carry several beers on tap and by the bottle for those patrons over 21 years of age who enjoy adult beverages. We have full locker rooms with day lockers and showers. The Virginia Beach Field House is currently looking for a custodial services team member. The custodial staff is responsible for cleaning and maintaining a complex indoor sports facility. Duties include cleaning, sanitizing, trash disposal, vacuuming, dusting, basic maintenance, and material inventories.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Maintain building cleanliness, presence, and supply levels of various areas throughout the facility at all times
• Complete tasks to quality standards and on time
• Perform extensive cleaning duties including floors, walls, glass, and waste management
• Service, clean, and supply restrooms and locker rooms
• Manage cleanliness and maintain stock in facility restrooms
• Exterior building maintenance (ex. shoveling, de-icing, debris removal, sweeping, waste removal, etc.)
• Must be efficient and effective in the following tasks:

• Sweeping, mopping, and waxing floors
• Mopping
• Cleaning windows
• Thoroughly cleaning various surfaces
• Waste removal from trash and garbage containers and debris from the grounds and parking lots
• Dusting of blinds and furniture

• Seeking a candidate that takes pride in their workplace and will stand by their work, understanding that their work creates a comfortable and safe environment for our guests.
• Requisition of supplies and equipment needed for cleaning duties
• Application and monitoring of pest control efforts
• Carrying out special facility-improvement projects

Requirements

• Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and supplies
• Familiarity with Safety Data Sheets
• Integrity and ability to work independently
• Perform related duties as required
• Ability to understand and follow oral directions
• One (1) year experience in the cleaning and maintaining of commercial buildings preferred
• Ability to operate a variety of general cleaning machines such as vacuums, buffers, Zambonis, and polishers
• Required to have reliable transportation to the worksite
• Required to successfully pass a background check related to this position.
• Can work weekends, nights and holidays
• Work is routine and involves the use of some skills acquired by experience or on the job instruction
• Ability to manage and accurately track material resources and time, as well as adapt to changing work priorities
• Demonstrated organizational, problem-solving, and common sense skills
