Job summary

The Indian River School District is seeking a dedicated custodian to join our facilities team. Responsibilities include cleaning, maintenance, and basic repairs to keep schools safe and welcoming for students and staff.

Position requires in-person work in the building, adherence to district policies, and the ability to interact professionally with administrators and students. A valid driver’s license and background checks are required before employment.

Qualifications

• Must meet physical requirements (climb ladder to 12 feet; lift 50 lbs).
• Ability to understand oral and written instructions.
• Cooperate with school personnel.
• Must hold and maintain a valid driving license.
• In-person/work in the building required.

Responsibilities

• Clean walls, floors, carpets and other interior components by mopping, scrubbing, waxing, shampooing or vacuuming.
• Dust and polish furniture and fixtures.
• Perform basic carpentry, painting, and glazing repairs.
• Wash windows.
• Empty and clean wastebaskets; transport trash to disposal area.
• Disinfect bathrooms; replenish soap and paper supplies.
• Move and arrange furniture; hang drapes and window shades.
• Operate custodial equipment (mops, vacuums, scrubbers, carpet shampooers, buffers, lawn equipment).
• Sweep sidewalks and patios and shovel snow.
• Cut grass and maintain grounds as necessary.
• Operate motor vehicles to pick up/deliver supplies.
• Interact positively with school administrators and students.
• Represent the school and district ethically and professionally.
• Follow all policies of Indian River School District.

Job description

• Isable to meet the minimum physical requirements of the job including climbing a ladder to a minimum of 12 feet and to lift 50 lbs and carry it for 50 feet.
• Demonstrates the ability to review and understand oral and written instructions and/or directions.
• Displays the ability to cooperate with school personnel.
• Holds and maintains a valid motor vehicle operator's license.
• Employee will be required to work in-person/in the building for the position
• Clean Criminal Background Check, TB Test, and Child Protection Registry Clearance must be completed prior to Start of Employment.

Performance Responsibilities:

• Cuts grass and maintain grounds as necessary.
• Operates motor vehicles - picks up and delivers a variety of supplies.
• Ability to interact positively and appropriately with school administrators and students.
• Represents the school and the school district in an ethical and professional manner at all times.
• Adheres to all policies and procedures of the Indian River School District as established by the Board of Education and the Superintendent.
• Practices and demonstrates safe work habits.
• Demonstrates good judgment in the proper use and storage of chemicals and other work related supplies.
• Attends custodial training classes as may be required.
• Performs other assigned duties as may be required.
