Position Overview

This is a full-time position located in Cleveland County Courthouse Building.

Position Overview

This is a full-time position located in Cleveland County Courthouse Building.

Custodians are expected to clean and keep Court House premises in an orderly condition by providing custodial and janitorial services. The position requires the ability to work under general supervision in the planning and organization of daily maintenance of the Cleveland County Courthouse and equipment. The Custodian will use professionalism in dealing with employees and customers. The employee will perform custodial and general maintenance duties to keep Cleveland County Courthouse and assigned areas in clean and orderly condition.

Compensation

  • $15.38 per hour, based on experience.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs janitorial duties, including sweeping, vacuuming, and mopping floors; dusting, cleaning furniture and fixtures; emptying trash containers in offices, breakroom, hallways, meeting rooms and restrooms and relines cans with liners; places garbage in outside refuse container.
  • Washes windows, walls, metal, and woodwork; cleans entrances and exits including glass, doors, and hardware.
  • Cleans and sanitizes restrooms using established practices and procedures; washes and disinfects all restroom floors, toilets, toilet seats, skinks, and fixtures; cleans restroom walls and toilet partitions; replenishes paper towels, toilet tissue, and hand soap in all dispensers.
  • Cleans and disinfects drinking fountains; cleans break room floors, sinks, and counters.
  • Inspects equipment for safety hazards before use; performs general maintenance or reports needed repairs on equipment as needed; replaces vacuum bags and changes belts and brushes.
  • Operates auto scrubber, burnisher, extractor, and other floor maintenance equipment using established operational and safety practices and procedures.
  • Works in a manner safe to the individual and other people; keeps work area clean and safe; follows safety rules and safe work practices; uses safety equipment in accordance with safe practices.
  • Sets up rooms with tables and chairs and other requests.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to work independently with little supervision; ability to work from verbal and written instructions and work orders.
  • Must have sufficient interpersonal skills to work as part of a team and convey technical information to and from staff.
  • Ability to concentrate and pay attention to detail.
  • Ability to problem solve.
  • Ability to always remain courteous and professional with customers, colleagues, and the public. Must have a customer service orientation.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move and walk with up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Manual dexterity sufficient to manipulate and operate cleaning equipment. Must have ability to pay close attention to detail. Ability to maintain regular, predictable and punctual attendance. Must be able to climb ladders to height in excess of 10 feet. Must be able to walk distances on both smooth and uneven surfaces in all weather conditions; not all sites may be wheelchair accessible.
  • The employee will experience frequent exposure to dirt, dust, noise and varying temperatures. Workdays are Monday through Friday, 12:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.
  • The employee shall be knowledgeable and follow Cleveland County’s safety policies and procedures. The employee must immediately report any accidents, unusual occurrences, or any other safety-related issues to his/her supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and experience to be successful in the position. Janitorial experience preferred.
