Overview

The University of Virginia Facilities Management Department offers a career with growth opportunities. We are hiring custodians for the following shift:

Shift Schedule

• Monday – Friday, 5:00 pm – 1:30 am

Compensation

$15.00 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience, plus a $2.00 hourly evening shift differential. Full‑time, overtime eligible, with UVA benefits.

Responsibilities

• Maintain offices, classrooms, restrooms, public areas, or other assigned areas in a clean and orderly condition.
• Remove trash, clean bathrooms, wipe down surfaces, dust, vacuum, and apply proper methods and materials. May mix own cleaning solutions.
• Maintain clean and orderly housekeeping closets and equipment and keep inventories of supplies, requesting additional supplies as needed.
• Report all repairs and pest control needs, and any housekeeping‑related violations by residents, guests, or staff.
• May perform minor maintenance tasks, such as changing bulbs, or more complex tasks including operating cleaning equipment such as buffers or waxers.
• Other duties may be assigned as needed.

Qualifications

• Basic housekeeping experience (dusting, vacuuming, mopping, cleaning carpets, cleaning bathrooms, and removing trash) preferred.
• Ability to follow policies, procedures, and regulatory guidelines.
• Strong teamwork, written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Basic computer or tablet use and ability to submit electronic timesheets.

Physical Demands

The role requires repetitive motions such as dusting and mopping, and continual movement including traveling, kneeling, squatting, bending, stooping, twisting, and lifting.
