Reports To: Principal, Assistant Principal, or other designee

Salary / FLSA: Non-Exempt
Custodian: Grade 58 – $15.60 - $21.06 per hour; plus local supplement, if applicable

The salary for this position is based upon the successful applicant’s years of service in the NC State Retirement System in the same or similar position.

Qualifications / Requirements:

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Must be able to pass a drug test, background check, and TB test before starting employment.
• Ability to work independently and supervise custodian staff
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions
• Ability to read, write, and keep records
• Ability to perform simple calculations
• Must be able to perform very heavy work exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to lift objects
• General knowledge and skills of cleaning methods, materials and equipment
• Not restricted from climbing ladders
• General knowledge of routine maintenance requirements of buildings
• Willing to clean after students
• Ability to identify cleaning needs and address with appropriate methods and supplies

Duties:

• Performs a variety of manual activities, in accordance with established practices and cleaning schedules
• Independent tasks in unskilled and semi-skilled maintenance functions
• Work is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions
• Responsible for the timely completion of assignments at sites/schools
• Duties include but are not limited to: loading and unloading trucks; cleaning and sanitizing space and equipment; verifying delivery orders for accuracy; maintaining equipment according to schedule; performing other duties as assigned
• Work is reviewed through inspections, observations, work review and discussions
• Establishes and maintains an effective working relationship with administration, staff, and co-workers
