The Stoughton Area School District is accepting applications for a Night Custodian. Hours of work: 3:00 p.m. - 11:30 p.m.

Summary: This position is responsible for maintaining the physical facilities in order to provide students with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean and efficient place in which to learn, play and develop.
Essential Job Functions: 1. Assists with snow removal (e.g. sweeping, salting, sanding, etc.) ensuring necessary areas are free of snow allowing for safe passing. 2. Set-up and take-down of equipment for events. 3. Perform tasks such as sweeping, mopping floors, washing walls, windows, climbing ladders, vacuuming of carpets, moving furniture, waxing floors, realigning desks and chairs, emptying trash, cleaning restrooms, dumping waste, and picking up litter from grounds. 4. Keep buildings and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas, neat and clean at all times. 5. Monitor heating and air conditioning systems. 6. Closes assigned campus building(s) after school/community functions and building security checks. 7. Operate and maintain custodial equipment. 8. Restock disposable items and maintain proper inventory of custodial supplies in the building and their safe use. 9. Identify and implement security procedures. 10. Prevent, identify, and remove safety hazards. 11. Work cooperatively with both the Custodial Operations and Buildings and Grounds supervisors, building principals, staff, students, parents, and the community to respond to issues of immediate concern. 12. Communicates verbally, in writing and follows written and verbal instructions. 13. Complies with the Absence Policies of the District.
Other Duties 1. Attend required meetings and participate in training on work procedures and safety. 2. Perform tasks such as cleaning furniture, raking and mowing lawns, snow removal, sanding or salting walkways, driveways, parking areas, and steps as appropriate. 3. All duties assigned which relate to the functions of the job. 4. Seek assistance, advice from Custodial Operations Supervisor when situations arise which are outside of the scope of normal duties or require a decision or response which employee is not trained or authorized to make. 5. Maintain knowledge of safe practices and equipment used to perform duties, including, but not limited to: cleaning equipment and chemicals, alarm system, preventive maintenance, cleaning procedures, mowers, snow blowers and any other custodial related equipment. 6. All duties assigned which relate to the functions of the job. 7. Comply with all policies of the District including those in the Stoughton Personnel Policy Handbook.
Education and/or Experience: 1. High school education or equivalent 2. Excellent communication skills in order to work effectively with students, staff, parents, community and outside suppliers/vendors. 3. Must be able to work with a diverse population of individuals. 4. Good manual and mechanical ability. 5. Able to work independently in a variety of environmental situations including inside building, outside building and confined spaces. 6. Possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
Physical Requirements: Constant (66-100%) bending, pushing, pulling, lifting, walking, squatting, reaching and stair climbing in order to perform the essential job functions.
The usual and customary methods of performing the job functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; frequent climbing and balancing; significant stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling, and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 10% sitting, 40% walking, and 50% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and under conditions with exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Possess and maintain a valid Driver's License
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: * SKILLS are required to perform multiple tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. * KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percent, and/or ratios; understand written procedures, write routine documents, and speak clearly; and understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: methods of industrial cleaning; and safety practices and procedures. * ABILITY is required to plan and prepare for the building activities, and/or events and consider a number of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; and operate equipment using a variety of standardized methods.
