Position Information

• Supervisor: Area Supervisor / Building Principal
• Schedule: 12 months; 8 hours/day
• Status: Full-Time
• Hiring Range (25-26):
• Hiring Range (26-27): $15.60–$24.33 per hour

Duties And Responsibilities

• Performs routine custodial duties, such as emptying trash and dusting furniture, fixtures, walls, and equipment.
• Vacuums, sweeps, mops and machine scrubs throughout the school building, including hallways, classrooms, cafeteria, library, offices, and gym.
• Sanitizes cafeteria tables, water fountains and restroom facilities, including toilets, countertops, and sinks; cleans windows and mirrors; stocks paper products as needed.
• Checks building exterior and interior for cleanliness and possible damage; maintains grounds and parking lot, clearing areas of paper and debris.
• Prepares buildings for special meetings and events; moves furniture, sets up chairs, and cleans after the event.
• Performs minor repairs and assembles furniture and equipment as needed.
• Notifies supervisor or principal of broken or damaged items or areas that require a work order.
• Assists in loading and unloading delivery trucks.
• Completes basic cleaning tasks as assigned.

Job Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Experience as a custodian is preferred.
• Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment used in custodial work, and the ability to use them safely, economically, and efficiently.
• Ability to measure, handle, and label chemicals correctly.
• Ability to observe and report needs for maintenance and supplies, and perform routine maintenance tasks.
• Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
• Ability to get along well with students, officials, and the general public.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Ability to establish and maintain successful working relationships with fellow employees, school staff, and the public.
• Some assignments may require travel from one location to another. A valid driver's license may be required.

Physical Attributes

• Work requires regular lifting, stooping, and bending.
• Sufficient strength, agility, and dexterity to perform all required tasks.
• Ability to work outdoors in a variety of temperatures and climate conditions.
• Ability to lift, move, and transport supplies and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, with manual or mechanical assistance and utilizing appropriate safety gear as per OSHA guidelines.

Hazards/Unusual Demands

• Exposure to cleaning liquids and other potentially toxic substances.
• Some cleaning activities may involve exposure to blood, excrement, urine, and other body fluids.
• Work involves some exposure to heat and dust; position requires work during evening/night shifts.
• Sufficient strength, agility, and dexterity to perform all required tasks.
