Job summary

Douglas County School District is seeking a Night Custodian - Building Engineer to maintain and secure Ponderosa High School. This role supervises custodial staff, monitors building systems, and ensures safety and cleanliness while coordinating with district operations.

The ideal candidate will have a High School diploma, physical stamina for lifting, and the ability to manage HVAC and electrical controls. This full-time, 1.0 FTE position offers benefits and a 260-work-day schedule.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Ensure the general security of buildings, including closing and locking doors and windows.
• Oversee and supervise the work of custodial personnel on site.
• Maintain cleanliness, sanitation and safety standards of the facility.
• Coordinate work activities of custodial personnel and contract services.
• Supervise and evaluate assigned personnel.
• Operate and monitor building HVAC, electrical, gas, and water systems.
• Assist emergency operations personnel as required.
• Train staff in cleaning and restorative materials usage.
• Coordinate setups and teardowns for events and functions.
• Ensure snow and ice removal for public safety.
• Support district sustainability policies.

Job Description

Responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the site. Oversees and supervises the work of the other custodial personnel on the site and is responsible for monitoring the various systems in the building. Develops and promotes good community relations among various community members and school clientele.

Essential Physical Requirements

• Frequent lifting, five (5) to fifty (50) pounds
• Occasional lifting, fifty (50) to one hundred (100) pounds
• Frequent extensive walking, bending, standing, reaching, and stooping
• Occasional climbing, kneeling, and squatting

Responsibilities

Position Specific Information (if Applicable):

Ensure the general security of buildings, including closing and locking doors and windows.

Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.

Ensure the overall cleanliness, maintenance and sanitation of the facility, grounds, and equipment maintaining a high standard of safety and efficiency.

Support all schedules and coordinate work activities of custodial personnel and contract services as assigned.

Utilize positive techniques to supervise and evaluate assigned personnel.

Exhibit working knowledge of the operation of electrical, gas and water controls, all HVAC systems and related equipment.

Assist all emergency operations personnel as required.

Utilize and train effective use of cleaning and restorative materials.

Ensure stakeholder satisfaction by coordinating and performing all setups and teardowns in a timely manner.

Ensure the general safety of the public by removal of snow and ice from walkways and entries.

Support all district sustainability policies.
