Job summary

The Salvation Army in Sarasota, FL is seeking a part-time Custodian/Janitor to maintain the cleanliness of buildings and grounds during daytime hours. The role requires minimal education and includes light duties such as laundry and meeting-room setup, with a weekly schedule from Monday to Thursday.

Compensation is $15.00 per hour with benefits, and the position involves lifting up to 25 lbs and routine outdoor exposure as part of a normal office environment.

Qualifications

• No formal education required.
• Six months experience performing general custodian/janitorial duties.
• Or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Responsibilities

• Maintain the cleanliness and appearance of buildings and grounds through daily housekeeping and custodial duties.
• Clean and sanitize bathrooms, kitchens, offices, common areas, laundry areas, and other assigned spaces.
• Sweep, vacuum, mop, and wax floors; clean windows; and dust and polish furniture and fixtures.
• Perform laundry duties, including washing, folding, and storing shelter laundry and linens, and regularly empty and collect trash.
• Assist with meeting room setups, groundskeeping, opening and closing the building, and other related duties as needed.

This position is responsible for:

Cleans and maintains the buildings and grounds to ensure the neatness and cleanliness of the same on a daily basis.

Key Responsibilities:

• Maintain the cleanliness and appearance of buildings and grounds through daily housekeeping and custodial duties.
• Clean and sanitize bathrooms, kitchens, offices, common areas, laundry areas, and other assigned spaces.
• Sweep, vacuum, mop, and wax floors; clean windows; and dust and polish furniture and fixtures.

Physical Requirements and Conditions:

Work is performed in a normal office environment with some exposure to outdoor temperatures, dirt and dust, and/or disagreeable sights and odors.

Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.

Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing, and climbing.
