Job summary

Barnes & Noble Education, Inc. is seeking a reliable Custodian to maintain a clean, safe warehouse environment in Columbia, Missouri. You will perform cleaning, basic maintenance, and assist with light outdoor tasks to keep operations running smoothly.

This onsite, full-time role requires attention to safety, proper PPE use, and the ability to work independently or with a team. Prior custodial or maintenance experience is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Must be able to perform eight-hour shifts standing and walking.
  • Experience in custodial or maintenance roles is a plus.
  • Ability to follow safety protocols and PPE usage.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain cleanliness and order throughout the warehouse, including sweeping, trash removal (inside and outside), and recycling management.
  • Clean and sanitize restrooms, break rooms, and other common areas.
  • Perform minor repairs and general maintenance, such as painting, basic carpentry, and equipment upkeep.
  • Assist with light outdoor maintenance and seasonal tasks as required.
  • Operate basic maintenance tools and equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Follow all safety protocols and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Collaborate with the maintenance team and other departments to support facility needs.
  • Additional responsibilities as required.

We are seeking a reliable and motivated Custodian to help maintain a clean, safe, and efficient warehouse facility. This role is essential to keeping our workspace organized, operational, and welcoming for all employees.

How You'll Make An Impact
  • Maintain cleanliness and order throughout the warehouse, including sweeping, trash removal (inside and outside), and recycling management.

Physical Requirements
  • Stand, walk, stoop, kneel, and crouch throughout an eight-hour shift.
  • Reach with hands and arms and use hand-eye coordination.
  • Lift and move items weighing 10–25 pounds; lift and/or move items up to 70 pounds.
  • Push or pull items weighing up to 150 pounds.
What You'll Need To Succeed
  • Strong work ethic with reliability, punctuality, and consistent performance.
  • Ability to work independently or collaboratively as part of a team, follow directions accurately, and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic knowledge of cleaning procedures, minor repairs, and safe use of cleaning chemicals and equipment.
  • Experience in custodial, warehouse, or general maintenance roles is a plus.
  • Awareness of safety protocols, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and ability to identify and report maintenance or safety issues.

Please Note: This is an onsite role located in Columbia, Missouri. Applicants must be within a commutable distance, as relocation assistance will not be provided.
